PEL core startegy is to explore and find hydrocarbons in the Lower Indus/ Middle Indus Basin where infrastructure is well developed for marketing.
In the initial phase PEL has concentrated on the core strategy of exploring for hydrocarbons in the Lower/Middle Indus Basin where infrastructure is well developed for marketing and it now holds exploration and production rights over 18,000 Km2 area in some of the best proven potential areas for hydrocarbons in these regions of Pakistan.
PEL currently have 10 onshore and 3 offshore exploration licenses, 6 development and production leases, and one non-operated joint-venture block in Pakistan. It has so far drilled 17 exploration and development wells involving an expenditure of about US$ 50 Million. PEL is presently producing 30 MMCFD (Million Cubic Feet per Day) of natural gas from four gas fields. PEL is committed to investing over US$300 Million on exploration and development in its concession areas in the next three years.
PEL acreages are adjacent to some of the top gas producers; e.g. Qadirpur (500 MMscfd gas) in the north, Mari (465 MMscfd gas) in east, Sawan etc (500 MMscfd gas) in south. These areas are located in the central gas producing basin, which produces over 70% of the total Pakistan gas reserves.
