PEL has the distinction of being the first private petroleum company of Pakistan to venture into
international exploration. Petroleum Agreement and Association Contract were executed
between PEL and ONHYM (Moroccan National Petroleum Company) for exploration and
exploitation of three onshore blocks, Haha-1 (Exploration Permit 132), Haha-2 (Exploration
Permit 133) and Haha-3 (Exploration Permit 134). PEL has a 75% working interest, while
ONHYM retains 25% carried interest. These blocks (shown in the map) have a total area of 4919
Kmē forming part of the Essaouira Sedimentary basin to the North of the coastal city of Agadir in
the West central part of the Kingdom of Morocco. To the West Haha blocks are bounded by the
Atlantic coastline.
Seven oil and gas fields had been discovered in the adjacent Ounara blocks to the North. Haha
blocks are located in a region where Jurassic/Cretaceous Petroleum System and a hybrid
Triassic/Paleozoic system have been well established.
The work program
for the two-year Phase-1 comprise 140 km2 of 3D
seismic data acquisition in Haha-2 block which will be focused
on the structural leads identified on the basis of 2004 vintage
2D seismic data. PEL has just completed 72 km2 of 3D
seismic survey over a number of identified leads and the data is
being processed by CGG-France. The delineation of drillable
prospects will be based on the interpretation of new 3D seismic
data.
